One morning in March of ‘99 I was sitting outside the Orthopedic Surgeon’s office waiting for my husband to come out with a decision on whether the doctors were going to perform surgery—again. My husband was a hazardous materials clean up technician and operated heavy equipment, and in 1993 he was thrown through the windshield of a piece of equipment causing him to have 3 broken disc in his neck. He had surgery and underwent physical therapy, but the neck did not heal properly.

You are probably wondering why I did not go in with him for such a major decision. After 6 years of going from one doctor to another and watching your husband live with chronic pain which led to depression and many other medical problems I could not bare the thought of them saying again “There is nothing we can do, you just have to live with it.” At least that is how I felt at that time.
